Many professionals spend years searching for a role that feels like the right fit. For Jennifer Arteaga-Vargas, Financial Wellness Specialist at the DCCU Cares Foundation, that journey happened with DCCU. Meaningful work has always mattered to Jenny and is one of the main reasons she was drawn to working here. Shortly after graduating from Bridgewater College with a bachelor’s degree in Data Science and Analytics, Jenny went searching for a job. “I was trying to find something local that was related to my degree, but also something that was community-focused,” she said. “The credit union really did that for me.”

Originally hired as a Business Intelligence Analyst, Jenny found purpose and enjoyment in her work but still felt something was missing. “I really enjoyed analytics, technology, and reporting, but I felt like something was still missing in my work,” she recalled. The missing piece became clear when she was offered the role of Financial Wellness Specialist with the newly established DCCU Cares Foundation at the end of 2024. In this role, Jenny works directly with students, families, and individuals in our community to support their overall financial wellness.

Today, most of Jenny’s work focuses on providing financial wellness education to local students in their classrooms. “Watching the students get an ‘Aha’ moment during a presentation is a great feeling,” Jenny shared. “I enjoy watching them reason through complex financial situations like creating a budget or balancing bills. Being able to help them reach those moments in real time is meaningful to me.”

For Jenny, financial wellness is about more than just numbers. It’s about helping people build a strong financial base for the future. “Finances are the foundation of so many milestones we experience in life, and I think it’s important to have a deep understanding of the fundamentals,” she explained.

While Jenny’s responsibilities may have shifted during her time here, the sense of purpose has remained constant throughout her career at DCCU. “One thing that has stayed the same during my time as BI Analyst and Financial Wellness Specialist is the meaning behind my work,” she said. “DCCU does a really good job of making sure each employee understands the difference we make and the impact that each role has on the communities we serve. We’re all connected in some way, and we all impact each other.”

That commitment to community is one of the things Jenny values most about DCCU and the DCCU Cares Foundation. “I really like that DCCU and the Foundation are so invested in the local community. I appreciate that we reach out to the community and try to pour into the people around us. It’s important to have a heart for the community,” she shared. Jenny’s journey with DCCU is a reminder that career growth doesn’t always require finding a new organization to work with; sometimes it’s about discovering a new way to serve within the one you’re already part of. By combining her analytical mindset with her passion for helping others, Jenny found a role that allows her to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people and communities we serve.
