Understanding Overdraft Protection

Even the best budgeters can make a mistake. It’s easy to miss a scheduled payment or a transaction you didn’t account for. Now, you’re faced with non-sufficient funds (NSF) and overdraft fees. Overdraft Protection can help you avoid the fees associated with a transaction being declined.

Overdraft Protection is a way to fund an account that has been overdrawn at a fraction of the cost of an NSF fee. Most transactions that might overdraw your account are covered, including checks, debit transactions, ATM withdrawals, or automatic transfers via ACH.

DCCU offers three Overdraft Protection options:

  • Overdraft Privilege - DCCU pays the item for you, taking your account negative, you must bring balance back to $0 or greater within two weeks. Fee charged.
  • Overdraft Transfer - Exact amount of money needed to bring your balance to $0 is transferred from one of your other accounts. Fee charged.
  • Overdraft Line of Credit - Money is transferred in increments of $100 from this line of credit tied to your Checking Account. Interest accrues until the line of credit is paid back.

Adding this service to your account is one way to protect against returned check/item fees and provide peace of mind during those forgetful moments.
