Chris Hughes has always had a passion for service. He started his DCCU career in 2022 as Assistant Branch Manager (ABM) at our Lexington location, where he focused on building connections with members while helping them achieve their financial goals. Today, Chris channels that same passion into a new role, Sales and Service Trainer, where he still supports our members indirectly by helping to enhance the skills of our branch staff who work with DCCU members directly.

“I didn’t have any intentions of changing the role I was in, but when this opportunity presented itself – I had to go for it,” Chris recalled. “My favorite part about working in the branch was my members. I get to do something similar in my role as trainer, but now I’m helping to provide our workforce with the tools and resources they need to succeed. That’s a good feeling.”

Chris’s advancement to his new position demonstrates opportunities for professional growth at DCCU. His ABM experience gave him firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities DCCU employees face in serving our members. Now, he leverages that knowledge to help equip employees to provide even better service.

Although he no longer works directly with members, Chris still gets to witness the ripple effect of his efforts as the employees he trains gain confidence and improve their skills. By ensuring our branch staff have the tools they need to succeed, Chris continues to contribute to DCCU’s mission of improving the financial health of our community.

“I’m still serving our membership, just in a different way. And that’s something I’m really proud of,” Chris shared. “The experience I gained in the branch helps me be a better trainer.”

Chris’s journey highlights DCCU’s ongoing effort to nurture talent from within and provide pathways for professional advancement. It also underscores the interconnectedness of every role within the credit union – whether you’re serving members directly or supporting those who do.
