DCCU Wins National Award for 2020 Campaign

DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) received second place in the nation for the 2021 Louise Herring Philosophy In Action Award, according to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). DCCU was recognized for its unique community campaign – Dine Out and Make a Difference.

At a time when local restaurants were seeing dramatic decreases in business because of the pandemic, the Dine Out and Make a Difference campaign encouraged members to use their DCCU credit card to support restaurants. DCCU donated 1% of all restaurant purchases made during the campaign to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to support their mission of helping to alleviate hunger in our community. DCCU donated $13,394.58 to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which equates to approximately 53,578 meals for families in our community.

“We are grateful to be recognized at the national level for this campaign,” said Steve Elkins, DCCU’s President and CEO. “Dine Out and Make a Difference is an example of how we shifted our focus to provide an even greater impact for our members and our community, especially during such a challenging economic time.”

“Congratulations to the 2021 award winners for their outstanding accomplishments. We celebrate the work that each institution has done to promote financial wellbeing within their respective communities,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. “Each award recipient represents the spirit of what credit unions are all about – people helping people.”

The Louise Herring Award recognizes credit unions that do an extraordinary job incorporating credit union philosophy into daily operations. State Credit Union Leagues across the nation selected winners in various asset sizes, and those league winners are then considered for the National Awards.
