DCCU Cares Day Tops 1200 Volunteer Hours

As part of DuPont Community Credit Union’s (DCCU) continued commitment to community wellness, the entire workforce spent the October 8 Columbus Day holiday participating in volunteer projects throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Dubbed “DCCU Cares Day”, a total of 313 employees formed groups and fanned out to serve nonprofits from Lexington to Woodstock, contributing over 1,200 hours to a wide variety of meaningful projects.

"DCCU Cares Day was an expression of our values in action,” said Steve Elkins, DCCU’s President and CEO. “Beyond providing quality products and services through our cooperative, we believe in adding value to the communities where we live and work through volunteering.”

A total of 22 organizations were helped on DCCU Cares Day. Credit Union employees completed a variety of tasks including sorting and boxing food at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank; organizing the Teacher Supply Depot at the Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc.; and conducting site cleanup for the Staunton Augusta Waynesboro Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, time was spent planting, weeding, and mulching with the Allegheny Mountain Institute; fall landscaping at Project Horizon; and cleaning, raking, and mulching at Response, Inc.; along with many other worthwhile projects.

“Our most inspiring achievements are not measured in dollars, but in the role we play in helping to improve the health of the communities we serve,” Elkins said. “Volunteering has become a huge part of the culture at DCCU and we enjoy volunteering all year long. Columbus Day was unique opportunity for all of us to join together for one dedicated day of service and we look forward to continuing volunteer relationships with many of these organizations.”

Including DCCU Cares Day, DCCU employees have already volunteered over 2,700 hours in 2018. Visit our Facebook page and #dccucares to see how we are showing up in the community. A complete list of all volunteer projects is shown below.
